  • Sandy Who?

Danielle was supposed to have her birthday party on the Saturday after Sandy at Chelsea Piers, this very cool sports complex on the West side of Manhattan. Unfortunately, being on a pier, it was heavily damaged by Sandy so her party had to be postponed.

They reopened last week and her party was rescheduled for today. I asked one of the employees there how bad it was, and she said the entire gymnastics area was under 6 feet of water. It had to be completely replaced.

So getting to this in a month, is pretty impressive:

The party was great. A bunch of 10 year old girls jumping around and landing in those huge pits. Tori got to be the one little girl at the party. Here’s Tori vaulting into a pit:

Danielle being fancy and doing a handstand into it:

Being launched into the pit by one of the instructors:

And the whole gang in the pit:

Amusingly, because they were brand new, Danielle said the foam squares smelled like pistachios. And needless to say, a great party. And all the instructors there had T-Shirts that had on the back “Sandy Who?”.

Not to make light of those still suffering from the effects of Sandy, but clearly the folks at Chelsea Piers did a great job getting the place back in shape.

  • Pollsters are Funny?

Who knew? A recent report from Public Policy Polling, a prominent polling firm just did their first post election national poll.

49% of GOP voters nationally say they think that ACORN stole the election for President Obama. We found that 52% of Republicans thought that ACORN stole the 2008 election for Obama, so this is a modest decline, but perhaps smaller than might have been expected given that ACORN doesn’t exist anymore.

They also polled on people’s opinions of Bowles/Simpson. But with an amusing control:

The 39% of Americans with an opinion about Bowles/Simpson is only slightly higher than the 25% with one about Panetta/Burns, a mythical Clinton Chief of Staff/former western Republican Senator combo we conceived of to test how many people would say they had an opinion even about something that doesn’t exist.

Seriously, I would have never guessed that pollsters were this funny.

  • Broooooklyn

The Brooklyn Nets won the first NBA battle for New York against the Knicks in the new Barclays Center. So many fun things about this:

    – Hearing the crowd chant “Brooooklyn”

    – Watching it on TV and seeing the going to commercial shots of Brooklyn and thinking, “that’s my neighborhood”.

    – Quality NBA hoops 5 blocks from my place.

    – Quality sports in Brooklyn period.

    – Seeing Beyonce in the stands

    Seriously, it’s all good.

  • More Crazy Patents

When the primary Apple fan titles his blog post:

Shitty Software Patent of the Week…

It just can’t be good. Apple now owns the page turn.

  • Politics in the Cloud

    Romney should’ve used Amazon

And seriously, the whole tech team had beards?

  • Seize the Moment

Possibly the most profitable tweet last night came from Nate Silver after a largely perfect prediction:

This is probably a good time to link to my book: http://www.amazon.com/The-Signal-Noise-Predictions-Fail-but/dp/159420411X …

    Sales are up 800% today…

  • Tech to the rescue–sort of

This web site showing gas stations in the Sandy affected area that actually have gas is really cool.

Though as of right now, it’s still a depressingly small number.

  • Seriously, this is Mars

I still think we are all a bit blasé about the fact that we have a rover on Mars sending us back high res pictures of itself and Mars.

    This is crazy cool stuff.
