  • Love

This past weekend was our nephew (wife’s side) Mike’s wedding. He has been with his bride Sandy for five years and it’s obviously an ideal match. Sandy is from Arizona but went to school at SUNY Binghamton (softball scholarship) where they met. Sandy has been living near Mike’s family ever since graduating and had the wedding there (Dutchess County, NY), not in Arizona.

Mike and Sandy love each other, Mike’s family loves Sandy, we love Sandy, Sandy’s family loves Mike, the two families love each other. Honestly, it’s hard to write because it sounds too hokey.

The wedding was just a big love fest (not in the 60’s sort of way). Some weddings are a big party, some feel a bit odd, this one was just all about love.

It was outside and a million degrees. We all complained about that, but we all had such a good time, what’s a little sweat? (ok, a lot of sweat).

And my girls were junior bridesmaids, so here are the obligatory pictures:

The smooch. Even the pastor is loving it.

The bride even loves the mother-in-law. That would be my wife’s sister Abby for those scoring at home (and her husband Jim on the right).

And the whole wedding party. A very fun group.

    A seriously great wedding…

  • Fun at RIM

I’m guessing morale at RIM was already pretty bad. Nothing more fun than the “we suck so everyone work harder” message…

  • Brooklyn is Cool

Or hot, courtesy of Business Insider.

    Not like this is news…

  • Fun With Clay

This is one of the things Danielle is up to in her summer art camp. There’s a group called Penciltopia that comes in and teaches animation. They do a pretty nice job for only having two weeks to produce it. The theme was inanimate objects. I like how at the 8:15 mark it shows part of the animation process in super fast motion.

  • The End of Kisses

Well, it was inevitable. I take Danielle to school every day on the way to work. She’s 9 and all during third grade the kiss goodbye was becoming more and more infrequent. Now that I’m dropping her off at her summer art camp, she just says “bye” and heads over to her friends.

I knew the day was coming. Kissing your dad in front of your friends is not cool and cool is starting to matter.

I still get kisses at home and she still wants to hold my hand while we scooter to school (scootering one handed is a vital city skill). So I’ll take it.

    Like I have a choice…

  • Dewey Defeats Truman

Seriously? One of the biggest Supreme Court decisions in many moons and two major news networks totally blow it? Lame.

    Image created by Gary He.

  • Decision Day

A sensible conservative’s view on the Supreme Court Obamacare decision.

  • Fun With Zero Gravity

On the International Space Station, an astronaut posted the image below. They injected an air bubble inside a big drop of water. Obviously the air bubble will only stay inside when’ there’s no gravity. This leads to fun with light waves.

For more on the science (of why the image in the bigger drop is inverted, but the inner image is not), check out Phil Plait. He gets appropriately geeked out over it.

  • Seven Minutes of Terror

NASA has produced a pretty cool video explaining the crazy challenges of landing a vehicle on Mars. From the top of the atmosphere to landing takes only seven minutes and requires a crazy combination of techniques.

I like the slogan at the end, “Dare Mighty Things”.

  • Land of Opportunity?

A somewhat depressing article from the Financial Times. Luckily the author has no relevant credentials (what? Nobel Prize in Economics? And he’s not Krugman? crap…)
