  • Ten Trains

As a New Yorker, I’m a mass transit fan. But today may have been excessive. My commute (with a meeting in Washington D.C.) consisted of ten trains:

    • NYC Subway: A Train – Hoyt Schermerhorn to Penn Station
    • Amtrak Acela: Penn Station to Union Station (D.C.)
    • D.C. Metro: Red Line: Union Station to Metro Station
    • D.C. Metro: Silver Line: Metro Station to Smithsonian Station

Then reverse those four trains coming back, except taking the A Train to Jay Street to pick up Danielle at school. Walk to my office in Dumbo (that could have been train #11, but we felt like walking the 3/4 mile), drop Danielle off at an art class. Then pick her up and head home:

    • NYC Subway: F Train – York Street to Jay Street
    • NYC Subway: A Train – Jay Street to Hoyt Schermerhorn

For all that train time, it was relatively nice. The Acela is always civilized. The D.C. Metro is very quick, though strangely dark. Are we saving money on electricity? The NYC subway is dirty and crowded, but does an amazing job of moving people around.

    Trains, trains, trains…

  • Brooklyn Greenmarket Wheat

    Yum.

If you are a wheat beer fan, I would highly recommend this beer. But if you aren’t in NYC you won’t see it.

Brooklyn Greenmarket Wheat Beer is brewed from 70% New York State-grown wheat and barley. Drinking this lovely beer helps reinvigorate the state’s grain industry and benefit GrowNYC’s mission to support family farms, farmers markets, gardens, recycling and education. Greenmarket Wheat is as bright and refreshing as a sunny day. The Raw wheat gives this beer its zing, barley malt brings depth, and Belgian yeast lends complexity. Accented with orange peel, local honey and a dash of coriander, the beer is naturally carbonated by re-fermentation in handsome 750ml bottles.

For now, Brooklyn Greenmarket Wheat is only sold in New York City.

Sorry, rest of world, it’s delicious…

  • Snow Day

The blizzard may have been a bust, but there was still snow to play in…

  • Superstorm Dud

Well, in NYC anyway. We apparently got lucky and the main part of the storm missed the city. We got 8 inches tops. A very ordinary storm here…

  • NYC Shuts Down

The city that never sleeps is shutting down the subways at 11PM due to the blizzard.

    Historic.

  • Live Blogging a Blizzard

Not really, I have better things to do. But we did take Coby, our puppy, out for a walk and he was having a crazy good time. We’ll see how he deals with 2 feet of snow instead of 3 inches…

We have stocked up on food, snacks, desserts and beer. Well, not really. There’s a deli across the street that will be open the whole time. If I need bacon/egg/cheese on a roll at any time, I’m covered.

    Have I mentioned that I love Brooklyn?…

  • It’s Officially a Blizzard

CitiBike is closing for the first time (I think)…

  • Potentially Historic Blizzard

Oh my, from the National Weather Service for the NYC area, including Brooklyn:

...CRIPPLING AND POTENTIALLY HISTORIC BLIZZARD TO IMPACT THE AREA
    FROM LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY...
    * ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 20 TO 30 INCHES...WITH
LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO 4
INCHES PER HOUR EXPECTED LATE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING.
I’m thinking the girls will get a snow day (or two)…
  • Drone NYC Video

This is a pretty nice aerial view of NYC via drone. It gets all over the city, not just Manhattan, so if you aren’t from New York you may not recognize everything.

This is the behind the scenes video, which is also cool:

  • And FIOS loses…

I generally love Verizon FIOS. But tonight the internet is unwatchable, much like the Knicks…
