  • The Angriest Man in Brooklyn

Certainly not me. They are filming this somewhere by my office today. Film trucks are right outside my office. No sign of Robin Williams or Mila Kunis though…

  • Brooklyn Cyclones

I went to my first minor league baseball game last night. A friend of my wife had four tickets he wasn’t using so we hopped on the subway to catch the Cyclones. Sure, they’re a Mets franchise and I’m a Yankees fan, but it’s Brooklyn after all. Go Cyclones.

It’s a nice small stadium. They do the normal silly minor league stuff between innings, my girls ate a bunch of junk food, it was a beautiful night, and a good time was had by all.

That is Coney Island in the background (and a full moon rising over left center).

  • Dumbo Art

The weather has been great lately, so when I need to think I’ve been taking walks in Brooklyn Bridge Park (a minute from my office). It’s always gorgeous and this being Dumbo, random art seems to pop up from time to time to make life more interesting…

  • Famous People Everywhere

Only I don’t know it. Turns out the co-creator of The Daily Show, author of this new book, and various other things, lives right in our building.

She’s very nice. She has two dogs and my girls always want to pet them. I had no clue what she did…

Or hot, courtesy of Business Insider.

    Not like this is news…

  • Fun With Clay

This is one of the things Danielle is up to in her summer art camp. There’s a group called Penciltopia that comes in and teaches animation. They do a pretty nice job for only having two weeks to produce it. The theme was inanimate objects. I like how at the 8:15 mark it shows part of the animation process in super fast motion.

  • Gotta Love Dumbo

It’s a quirky neighborhood, but it is definitely photogenic. This just happened outside my office window. Random wedding party taking pictures.

This sort of thing happens all the time here…

  • A Spectacular Day

We took the ferry to Governors Island today and spent the afternoon there. It was a gorgeous day. We rented a big quad bicycle, rode around, played. It was such a great day, but it’s a bit hard to explain why it was such fun.

If you don’t know Governors Island, it’s the largest of the three small islands below Manhattan. Ellis Island and Liberty Island (i.e. Statue of Liberty) are the other two. Governors Island was once a Coast Guard installation but no longer and the city finally figured out they should do something with it, so there are free ferries from Manhattan and Brooklyn and they’ve been improving the parks and the food.

The views are pretty great (Statue of Liberty):

Flying kites on a beautiful day with my girls. Danielle actually said, “my cheeks hurt from smiling so much”.

It really doesn’t get any better.

  • Traces

For Mother’s Day (a day early) we went to see Traces off Broadway.

It was definitely a “wow” kind of show. There are two moments that go by in a flash in the video above. One of the best parts was an acrobatic dance with the one girl and the tallest guy. Freeze the video at the 2 second mark. She is standing on his hands with him lying down. He spins and somehow smoothly lifts her so he is holder her above him, still standing on his hands. He had absolutely no leverage to do that lift, but it looked effortless.

Part of the same dance, freeze the video above at the 25 second mark. At this point the guy has been balancing her above him and then basically throws her up. She comes down head first behind him, grabbing his body to prevent her from landing head first on the floor and then she slides between his legs, again looking effortless. But she came about four inches from bashing her head.

The whole thing was impressive and the kids loved it.
