Storybook
Even the weather behaves for Derek Jeter. The forecast was for rain all night. The papers were saying that ticket brokers could lose a million dollars if the game got rained out. But no, the weather changed and Jeter got another story book night.
If you wrote this in a story it wouldn’t be believable. Of course the Yankees blow a three run lead in the ninth so that Jeter can come up in the bottom of the ninth with a chance to win his last game at Yankee Stadium.
And of course he does it.

The Genie Question
I discovered Wait But Why through the blog post on the Fermi Paradox (yes, I’m a geek). The author then decided to let his readers pick a bunch of random countries for him to visit. And I do mean random.
- Russia
- Japan
- Nigeria
- Iraq
- Greenland
At the beginning, he said,
Finally, I’m going to ask 50 random people in each country the following question: If you had a magical Aladdin genie who granted you any three wishes, what would you wish for? I’m not totally sure what will come out of it, but I think it’ll be interesting to see how the answers differ from country to country.

Are Video Games Sexist?
I’m violating Betteridge’s Law of Headlines here. This has been in the tech world news lately because of the video web series Feminist Frequency. The latest videos (NSFW) are rather scholarly analyses of this topic.
As an old guy, I haven’t been into video games for a long time (Myst was my last obsession, so that dates me). In today’s world of Grand Theft Auto (which I’ve never played) saying that sexism exists in video games would seem like a rather obvious statement.
Apparently a women saying it leads to death threats (NSFW).

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
If you haven’t seen this web series, it’s Seinfeld doing 20 minute spots where he talks to another comedian. They are off the cuff and generally hilarious (the Chris Rock one is great).
They always start with Jerry describing a cool vintage car and ultimately he and the other comedian go for coffee in that car.
I have to be honest and say I don’t know George Wallace (the comedian). Apparently he’s been friends with Seinfeld for ages. This episode is very funny. The title of this show (Two Polish Airline Pilots) comes from a joke they remember from a Bob Newhart show that they saw together in 1977. If you don’t have time, start the video at the 9:00 mark.
But it was wide though, wasn’t it?…
