I am the proud owner of this:

Much to my wife’s relief, I did not get the one formally owned by Max Schlossberg for a mere 32k.

Regarding this post, via Kottke…
I’m in Oakland visiting my brother in the hospital, but in the morning he gets tested, cleaned, poked and prodded. (“injected, inspected, detected, infected, neglected and selected”, if you get the reference). Anyway, I can’t really go visit before 2 PM, so with a morning to kill (and a rainy morning at that) I set off for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
It seemed like a good way to spend a rainy morning, and it turns out they are doing an Amy Sherald exhibit. If you don’t know the name, she did the official portrait of Michelle Obama.
The museum overall was very good and this exhibit was wonderful.

And of course…

If you haven’t seen this, watch it right now. Whoever edited this deserves an award. The mashups, the way they combined songs, and just the incredible talent is spectacular.
The greatest music video ever.
Our daughter was back from school for the weekend and has wanted to see Hamilton forever. So I got tickets for a father/daughter outing.
I was wondering what the talent level drop would be from the original cast, but it was still excellent. The current Washington, in particular, was tremendous (One Last Time, being my favorite song from the show).
A really fun night…

Decent seats, too.

People who really know me are aware that my prior career was as a trumpet player. But I haven’t played professionally in over 30 years. And I haven’t even played a horn in 20 years.
Now that I’m retired, I broke out the old trumpet and flugelhorn and while they need some work, they still play just fine.
I wish I could say the same about me. My chops last about 5 minutes. I’ll do a little more every day. Baby steps.

Network effects and tipping points are amazing things. Over the course of about a week, everyone I follow on Twitter bailed and moved to Bluesky.
It really is amazing how things happen gradually, then all at once. Two weeks ago I would go straight to Twitter, but today that icon isn’t on my phone’s home screen at all.
US War Department film from 1947…
