  • End of an Era

    End of an Era

I retired at the end of last year, but we had a lease on my WeWork office until the end of April.  So I finally cleaned it out.

I spent over ten years in a Brooklyn WeWork somewhere (Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights). WeWork served me very well, all jokes about the original founder aside.

The last one even had a decent view…

  • Friends

You never know when you will need a favor. Having a network of friends/colleagues/etc. who actually like you (or fake it well) comes in handy when you least expect it.

When you make that request and the response is “of course!”, it just feels great.

  • Retirement

I’m starting my retirement as of the end of the year. It’s been a wild ride with Origami Risk, the company is doing great, and I’m officially old. Time to enjoy the next chapter of life.

Will I blog more? Less? About very random things? How would you know the difference?

Hopefully there will be pictures from all around the world…

  • New Orleans Beauty

    New Orleans Beauty

We just finished the annual Origami Risk Colleague Conference, where we bring the entire company together for a few days. This year it was in New Orleans. Everyone thinks about Bourbon Street first, but I got to do an afternoon biking/kayaking outing one afternoon in City Park.

The kayaking was delightful with wonderful sculptures along the way. A tower of cellos…

I’m not sure what to call this one…

Perhaps “delightful” isn’t the right word for this one, but amusing…

Biking through the park you pass a million wonderful oak trees…

And it was a great conference. It’s hard to believe this company was once only four people.

Origami Risk started 11 years ago with four people. Today we hit 400. Crazy.

  • Origami Risk Rocks RMIS Report

Yet again, Origami Risk shines in the RMIS Report 2020.

Published by Redhand Advisors and written by industry veterans David Tweedy and Patrick O’Neill, the report provides the most comprehensive analysis and commentary on the marketplace, industry analysis and trends and detailed provider profiles.

Net Promoter Score is calculated from actual client responses where they rate you from 0 – 10. A 9 or 10 earns 1 point, a 0 – 6 is a negative point and 7s or 8s are 0. Origami Risk is the only vendor with a positive NPS and our score is 60 points better than our nearest competitor.

    NPS

    But please note:

It is important to note that the RMIS Report does not endorse or attempt to rank the vendors or determine an overall winner. Nor should anyone try to infer a winner based on the results published. The RMIS Report is a guide to understanding the market and the vendors.

Read the whole report, it’s quite good. There’s a section on Third Party Administrator Providers, evaluating the system and service. The clear leader there is Gallagher Bassett who provides a white label version of Origami Risk called Luminos.

Note, green is good, dark green is really good. (But again, it’s not a ranking).

    Origami Risk clearly rocks.

  • Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

    Flagrant work plug post.

Origami Risk has tons of amazing colleagues. We win all sorts of best places to work awards. Business Insurance has a Break Out Award, for “the next generation of insurance industry leaders”. I would argue that Origami has many folks who deserve this award, but it usually goes to larger insurance firms (brokers, carriers, etc.).

But this year our very own Minda Rossman (Client Service Team Lead and rock star) won the award. We are crazy super proud of her.
