  • NFL.com Live Sucks

I can only assume that the NFL is still pushing to get the NFL Network on more cable lineups. So they don’t want watching a game on NFL.com/live to be actually satisfying, otherwise you might not care if you have NFL Network.

I have the evil Time Warner Cable network who refuses to give in to the NFL so I don’t get the NFL Network. I’ve followed the NFL’s demands here, and for once I have to agree with Time Warner. Saints/Cowboys is a pretty good game so I’m watching it online.

But NFL.com doesn’t even try to show the whole game. They randomly cut away from live action to go to lame-ass commentators in the studio. Hello? Live football going on. Show it.

Seriously, this is so lame. I’m assuming these stupid talking heads are what you get on the NFL Network. This is supposed to make me want the channel? Please, show the damn game…

  • Iraqi Favre Ribbing

OK, this is actually pretty funny. But then again, imagine you’re a soldier in Iraq, thousands of miles away from your home in Wisconsin. Of course you’re a Packer fan.

It’s gotta be bad enough without getting crap about Favre from the Iraqis…

  • Baseball Jones

I’m feeling seriously sports deprived right now. The NFL is great, but my Packers are looking lame. I’m not a huge college football fan (I went to Indiana and we were 0-11 my freshman year, need I say more?). I like the NBA but the Knicks are completely lame.

I’m not a hockey guy (grew up in Milwaukee, no NHL team). Normally I’d be looking forward to college hoops, but Indiana is suffering through a serious rebuilding phase (thanks Kelvin Sampson).

I can only revel in the Yankees World Series win for so long…

  • Yankees Get it Done

Champions again. All is right with the world. I was very glad to see Matsui get the MVP. He’s been such a classy professional for his entire career in NY.

Rivera was his typical self. Jeter hits a ho-hum .407 in the World Series. And old man Andy Pettitte clinches another one.  The old gang gets it done.

    Some quotes:

    NY Daily News:

Now, when anyone questions Girardi about the use of his scout books, charts, graphs and statistics, he can give them the finger – the ring finger.

    Paul O’Neill (about Rivera):

It’s ridiculous that he’s still this great. He gets the ball and you start congratulating people with five outs to go.

Charlie Manuel on letting Pedro face Matsui in the third with 2 outs and the bases loaded:

Pedro’s got experience. He knows how to pitch. I had to let him face that guy.

Tim McCarver (right before Matsui’s two out double in the sixth):

This is a dangerous pitch coming up

    Derek Jeter:

I forgot how good this felt

    Me too, Derek, me too.

  • Greatest Closer Ever

In the bottom of the 7th, with Pedro struggling, Jayson Stark of ESPN.com (@jaysonst) tweeted this:

Joe Girardi dreaming of Mariano’s 14th career six-out postseason save. All other closers combined have 11 saves like that since ’96

First of all, nice prescient tweet. But more importantly, if the stat is correct, it’s just ridiculous. More 6 out saves than everyone else combined? In the post-season when it really counts?

    Greatest. Closer. Ever.

  • Funny link

You know those ads for the IQ test that are always context sensitive to the page you are on. On ESPN.com tonight I got this:

    Avg. Phillies IQ = 84

Are you smarter than a Phillies player? Take the IQ test now!

    The other funny ones were:

    Yankees Fans: Make $63/Hr

    and

    Phillies Fans: Make $81/Hr

So Phillies are dumb but Phillies fans make more than Yankee fans?..

  • Viking Favre

For a long time Packer fan and a long time Favre fan, last night’s game was just weird to watch. I have to admit that I was watching Favre and still admiring the way he plays the game. He’s just fun to watch. I wish he weren’t playing for the Vikings, but what can you do?

The game wasn’t Favre vs. Rodgers. Both played well. Switch the quarterbacks and the Vikings win, Rodgers has a great game and people would be talking about how Favre is looking a little old after getting sacked 5 times.

In truth, the Packers letting him go was probably the best thing that could have happened for Favre. He’s in a way better situation. The Packers have to get their offensive line back or they will be toast. No running game and Rodgers running for his life will not get it done. That is the shell of the offensive line that did not give up a sack in the preseason.

So congrats to Brett. And the Pack has some work to do…

  • American League wins again

Honestly, the National League can’t buy an All Star game win. So can we all just agree that the American League is superior?

No, I’m not biased at all…

  • Empty Seats at Yankee Stadium

Some of the prime seats are so expensive that they can’t sell them. Check out this picture of a recent game:

    image

Full everywhere except the super pricey seats. I think the Yankees miscalculated…

  • NCAA Pool

For the record, I had Memphis to win it all and Duke to the Final Four. So my pool was toast as of Thursday night.

    Baseball season…
