Of course the NY tabloids are having fun with the latest on deflate-gate. The NY Post is never subtle:

The NY Daily News went with it for the front and back covers.

A headline writer’s dream…
I’ll be the first to say that calling NCAA athletics (at least men’s football and basketball) amateur is naïve. But they do try to propagate the illusion.
CBSSports.com, the NCAA partner, on their NCAA tournament scoreboard, for upcoming games shows the over/under and point spread. Even NFL.com doesn’t show gambling information, but “amateur” athletics does?
I understand that CBSSports.com is not the NCAA, but they might as well be.
Honestly, just pay the players…
Through work, my wife got 4 nice tickets to the Knicks game last night. Our girls have never been to an NBA game (Victoria had never been to Madison Square Garden) so it sounded like fun, even if the Knicks are horrible.
And these were very nice seats.
The seats came with $20 per ticket to spend on stuff. At first that seemed really odd to me. Why would any normal person buy tickets like that? When we got there it was obvious. Normal people don’t buy these seats.
These seats were on the same level as the fancy suites. We weren’t in a suite, but we had nice cushioned seats with a TV screen and we could walk back to a big area that had a ton of free food. Booze was extra but the girls could get hot dogs, popcorn, lemonade, cotton candy, etc. (which they did).
These tickets are designed to be corporate give-aways and with the crazy prices for stuff at The Garden, they solve the “these free tickets will end up costing me $200” problem. And for that target audience, it makes total sense.
Anyway, it was a fun night. The Knicks were playing Golden State so of course they lost (lots of Stephen Curry jersey in the crowd), but everyone had a good time.
May have turned my girls in Warriors fans though…
The pre-game view…

Twitter is having a field day. I saw most of Brady’s press conference. I’ve always been a Brady fan, but I didn’t believe him either…
And the NFL hasn’t contacted him yet? The story broke three days ago. He’s not hard to find. Does the NFL even want to know the truth? (rhetorical).
The “bad” Big Ten looked pretty good on New Year’s Day.
Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez, who returned to coach the Badgers over Auburn, did a nice victory dance (for a 68 year old) after the win.
He left on bad terms. He played for the hated Vikings. He threw some painful interceptions.
But he won a Super Bowl.
And threw a ton of touchdowns. And made classic plays. And was fun to watch (when he didn’t throw a painful interception)
And he won a Super Bowl.
Seriously, that’s enough. Super Bowls are few and far between. Brett Favre is a Packer.
Our nephew Matt was named Skyline Conference (D-III) Men’s Soccer Player of the Year.

And his coach was coach of the year. A pretty good year.
Our nephew Matthew is finishing up his college soccer career. He just set the career goals scoring record for his school. This is Division III so it may not be the biggest deal in the world.
But he it in only two years (he was a junior transfer).
So congrats to Matt and the Mount Saint Mary Knights. His team won their division and if they win their tournament they will go to the NCAA tournament.
