Filming on the way to school

Last week I was thinking about how different my daughter’s life experience is at 5 compared to mine. The things that she sees routinely growing up in New York and the places she’s been really blow me away when I think about it.

Growing up in Milwaukee, if we heard that someone was shooting a movie in our city, that would be a big deal. Here you routinely see No Parking signs on various streets to facilitate movies.

They’ve been shooting something on the streets on the way to Danielle’s school in the morning. And we’re just completely blasé about it. Danielle is shy, so when I asked her if she ever wanted to be in a movie she said “no way”.

The filming has been going on for weeks, which is pretty long. Lots of times it’s just a commercial or something small and it’s one day. The No Parking signs all say “Pelham 123”. That meant nothing to me, so I finally Googled it. Holy crap, this is a big deal. The church that they mention is where they are doing makeup is three door down from our place.

I guess I need to keep an eye out for Travolta or Denzel…

Pelham 1-2-3 as it is known, actual name was the The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, is a great flick. This is a remake as I have heard, it was actually already remade once as a TV movie a few years back which was not that good. If you have never seen the original catch it sometime when it’s on TV. I’m sure they’ll be re-running it as the new movie gets closer to release.

The original is a great movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072251/
It had a great cast that included Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw (from Jaws), Martin Balsam, Jerry Stiller (George Costansa’s Dad on TV, Ben Stiller’s Dad in real life), Dick O’Neill (not related to me), and Hector Elizondo.

Hope the new one can live up to the first.

I thought I had posted this earlier so if this is a dup, sorry.

Anyway, Pelham 123 is actually remake of a great movie from 1974 which was actually called The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. It has been remade once already a few years ago as a TV movie, wasn’t that good.

The original stars Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw (from Jaws), Martin Balsam, Jerry Stiller (George Constanza’s TV Dad, Ben Stller’s real life Dad). Hector Elizondo and Dick O’Neill (no relation).

If you ever get to see the original it’s a classic. Maybe the remake will be a big blockbuster but the 1974 version is a classic.
